This was something that I received in an email from one of my favorite sources of inspiration, justloveaudio.com.
Ruth O’Neil of Toms River NJ passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She was 97 years old and on April 14 of that year, Ruth celebrated 68 years of sobriety. Sober since 1944, it is possible Ruth had the longest living sobriety of any woman or man at the time of her death. She also knew and helped Dr. William D. Silkworth, who wrote most of “The Doctor’s Opinion” in the Big Book.
Within a few months after she got sober, at a meeting in Brooklyn NY, she was given a business card by another AA member. On one side of the card was the Four Absolutes of the Oxford Group (Absolute Honesty, Absolute Unselfishness, Absolute Love, and Absolute Purity) and on the other side of the card was the prayer listed below. Ruth recited this prayer daily and shared it whenever she spoke. It has come to be known as “Ruth’s Prayer.”
It occurred to me that it would be wonderful to replicate the card that she carried. Below are pictures that I made of Ruth’s prayer together with the 4 Absolutes and how to practice Two Way Prayer.
For those of you who would like to perhaps make your own picture or cards, here is Ruth’s Prayer:
Thank You, dear God, for another day,
The chance to live in a decent way,
To feel again the joy of living
and happiness that comes from giving.
Thank You for friends who can understand
and the peace that flows from Your loving hand.
Help me to wake with the morning sun,
With the prayer today, “Thy will be done.”
For with Your help I will find the way.
Thank You again, dear God, for AA.
On the other side of the card I put:
Honesty Be Still
Purity (Forgiveness) Listen
Love (Faith) Test
Just for fun, I made various versions of the cards into several PDFs, using different backgrounds.
I tried to made them as actual 2 sided business cards. However, I am not sure if I designed them correctly. I am hoping that anyone who is interested will be able to print them up professionally.
Please take a look.
Any problems, please let me know and I will try to accommodate, if possible.
In love & service,
Ruth’s Prayer and 4 Absolutes Business Cards
