This is a copy of what was read during our meeting this week on sponsorship and recovery from Lawrie C.
This is the link to his book:
Although a sponsor, if available, is very important for recovery, a sponsor is not NECESSARY to recover.
ANNOTATION: The Big Book was written as a textbook for people who had no sponsors. Its instructions work even if there are no sponsors available.
The point of this proposition is that no one should use the lack of sponsors as an EXCUSE not to do the steps.
No one should be dependent on another person for recovery. If I depend on a sponsor, then where is my dependence on a higher power?
Page 98: “we simply do not stop drinking so long as we place dependence upon other people ahead of dependence on God. Burn the idea into the consciousness of every man that he can get well regardless of anyone. The only condition is that he trust in God and clean house.”
