Humility — from the plaque on Dr. Bob’s desk (2)

During the meeting 2 weeks ago, Aidel read this to the group. It is a beautiful piece and speaks to the principle of humility and Step 7.

Humility — from a plaque on Dr. Bob’s desk.

Perpetual quietness of heart.
It is to have no trouble.
It is never to be fretted or vexed, irritable or sore;
to wonder at nothing that is done to me,
to feel nothing done against me.

It is to be at rest when nobody praises me,
and when I am blamed or despised,
to have a blessed home in myself
where I can go in and shut the door
and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace,
as in a deep sea of calmness,
when all around and about is seeming trouble.

    • I have had the pleasure of reading this while standing next to Dr Bob’s desk in Akron while on a pilgrimage some years ago and I remember thinking and have come to believe ‘if one could feel all that is said in this reading wouldn’t one be truly blessed’ If you are reading this I hope you are one of those who are and may your God be always with you. May your journey keep you always.
