Please join us as we “trudge the Road of Happy Destiny.” (AA Big Book 164:3)

This week, we continued our study on Steps 6 and 7.  We read from Drop the Rock and read until page 76:5.

Today we discussed a broad range of topics. We discussed cultivating an attitude of surrendering our character defects and asking God for the willingness to have them removed and replaced with the character assets.

The AA slogan that comes to my mind is “Letting Go and Letting God.”

A great quote, “it’s not so important what happens to me as my attitude towards what happens to me.”

Next, we discussed self-centered fear. In recovery, we must constantly ask ourselves: What is the core emotion that is fueling my behavior? Am I acting out of love? Or, Am I acting out of fear?

We discussed the importance of breathing and exercise. If we want to know how we feel, we should check our breathing. Deep emotion tends to make us breathe differently. The more aware we are of our breathing, the more connected we are to our emotions.

With awareness, we learn to identify the emotions we are feeling, and move through it, and respond, rather than resist and react.

This book has been such a pleasure to read together. Our discussions have been a wonderful combination of thoughtful and deep, and yet still practical and concrete.

Thank you all for sharing your experience, strength and hope. I am so grateful we are sharing this journey together!

“Together we can do what we can never do alone.”

In love and service,

Shira
