Want Ad for a Higher Power

Want Ad for a Higher Power

Just for fun, I wrote my own Higher Power Wanted Ad.

Wanted: Higher Power who can restore me to sanity.

Desired candidate must be omniscient, (All-knowing) omnipotent (All-powerful) , and omnipresent (All-present).

Desired candidate must also be unconditionally loving, caring, reliable, loyal, patient, kind, trustworthy, giving, protective, compassionate and forgiving. However, responding candidate may remain anonymous and does not need to provide open miracles on demand.

Salary negotiable. Payment in kind through acts of loving kindness and service is preferred.

Position requires on-call availability 24/7 and long working hours.

Acceptance Letter From God

My child,

If I accept this position, it will be subject to your faith in Me and your willingness to trust and rely on My plans and designs for you. For me to be your Higher Power, you must be willing to subordinate your will to My will.

Our relationship will depend upon your continuous commitment to abstinence, and your willingness to change and grow along spiritual lines. Please be willing to go to any lengths!

I ask that you be open-minded, pray, meditate, and continually make the effort to seek Me out wherever you are.

I also request that you take responsibility for your actions, pause when in doubt, and be willing to take the next right step by asking, “how would God have me be?”

I do not want financial compensation for this position. The only payment that I request is that you are willing to be of service and help carry the message to those who still suffer.

Your initial commitment should be considered by you to last for your lifetime.

Your Father, God

My response:

Dear God,

I put my trust in You. I am truly powerless — and I know that whatever I have been through is a part of Your greater plan. I am willing to follow Your Direction as it is only with Your help that I can recover.

Here are great quotes from the AA Big Book on this topic:

When… we speak to you of God, we mean your own conception of God. …Do not let any prejudice you have against spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you.

We… beg you to lay aside prejudice, even against organized religion. We have learned that whatever the human frailties of various faiths may be, those faiths have given purpose and direction to millions. …We talked of intolerance, while we were intolerant ourselves.
