This week, we read and discussed the AA Big Book “A Vision For You” 158:3.
Here are some of my notes summarizing what we discussed:
We discussed the myth that “no one will know” if we are abstinent or not. We shared how others are aware, by our behaviors and even by the tone of our voices.
We discussed why we need a SPIRITUAL program of recovery. It is not just about the weight. Some of us shared that the noise in our head is louder than the numbers on the scales. We have a disease that begins with our minds: “the mental state preceding the first drink.” (AA BB, 157:5)
We also talked about how we have to do our part — this is a program of action. To quote Betty, “God helps those who help themselves. We are in partnership with God.”
During our next meeting, we will continue reading from the AA Big Book, and The Unpopular Studies.
We discussed that once we finish “A Vision For You,” we will continuing reading the stories for half our meeting and do step work for the other half.
The literature that we will be using is: the original document of our group,
Emotional Sobriety …. A Journey of Perspective
The 4 Absolutes
Dr. Paul Os Unofficial Guide To The Twelve Steps
and the AA Big Book. I thought we could use this annotated version, which I think is very excellent:
Thank you all for sharing your experience, strength and hope.
Together we can do what we can never do alone.
I am grateful to be sharing this journey with all of you!
With blessings for recovery and peace,
