How To Avoid Playing God (An Early AA Pamphlet)

just love everyoneThis is something that I received in an email, that I thought others might enjoy too.

How To Avoid Playing God (An Early AA Pamphlet)

1) Offer no advice unless it is asked.
2) Listen to other people’s dreams and help them in the way they wish to be helped.
3) Encourage them to find their own strength.
4) Reserve judgment – AT ALL TIMES.
5) Admit that you don’t know all the answers.
6) Build confidence in the other person until their own judgment becomes clear.
7) Have faith in the overall rightness of God’s purpose in this world and the next.
8) Dwell on what is right instead of what is wrong.
9) Realize the core of Divine Being in each person. Respect it.
10) Never discount the other person’s good intentions.

Enjoy!

  1. This is a keeper. want to make this a refrigerator magnet, a post it in my daytimer when i need to be reminded what my primary purpose is. thanks for posting it.

    • I like that! As it says in the BB: “where do we find God? Deep down within ourselves.” (55:3) So, really, it is the same thing! Such a creative way of reframing. We are all a work in progress. Thank you for your comment.

      • Yes, deep down within ourselves. This ‘whole sobriety thing’ (?) to me is something like the unpeeling of fake layers like unpeeling an onion. Every (good) step we get closer to the core, to God, to our HP. 🙂

      • So true! Never underestimate our capacity to look outward rather than inward for the source of our problems. The beauty of program is that it gives us tools to look inward and at the same time become other centered rather than self centered.
